This is an outstanding smaller, ornamental bamboo that is best suited to part shade. A beautiful, delicate looking blue bamboo from Nepal, it is very tough plant. Nepalese Blue is a  good bamboo to block out single story window next door, or in the understory of rainforest and tropical gardens. This bamboo does a lot better when it is not in full sun here in Perth.

This is without a doubt one of the best looking bamboos for pots and containers. It has an erect growth habit with stiff upright olive green leaves. This bamboo is quite tolerant of salt air and drought tolerant once established. The shoots of Yasui bamboo are considered a delicacy in Asian cooking. This is one of our biggest selling running bamboos and is very popular due to its compact size and tight clumping growth habit. Ideal for screening, hedging or as a windbreak and is tolerant of coastal conditions. Prefers a sunny or partly shaded position.

Golden Goddess is a superior species to that of the Multiplex family as it is more resilient to pests and disease than some of the other hedging species. Mealy Bug and Black Sooty Mould are common in the Multiplex species and this can be a problem for those that are wanting a low maintenance bamboo hedge. Although this cultivar is less prone to these pests it may succumb to pest infection if the plant gets stressed. Golden Goddess makes a fantastic hedge and is best planted in groups at 2m spacing’s. This bamboo has an erect growth habit and the culm wood is very hard and dense, and it is used extensively in house construction and furniture making. Makinoi is a very popular bamboo for pots and planter boxes and the size of the plant will be restricted due to pot size. Although Makinoi is fairly cold tolerant it requires a warm climate, ample water and fertiliser to reach its maximum height. Makanoi looks fantastic in pots and planter boxes. Prefers a sunny or partly shaded position.

One of the most popular bamboos, however it does require protection from our warm weather to look its best. Nigra is a very popular bamboo for pots and planter boxes and the size of the plant will be restricted due to pot size. Each season the new canes emerge green, darkening off gradually until they turn a very glossy black colour. The lime green leaves contrast very well against the black canes however if subjected to sun, water stress or hot winds, the leaves will turn brown around the edges. Additionally, if the canes are exposed to direct sunlight they will suffer some form of ‘sun-bleaching’. Nigra is very controllable in pots and is a stunning feature in the right setting. This bamboo has a slight arching habit and prefers a shaded, protected position to look its best.

An awesome ornamental bamboo with striking yellow canes and random green stripes. A highly attractive species that looks fantastic in large pots. The size of the plant will be restricted due to pot size. This bamboo has an upright growth habit and prefers a sunny position to look its best.

A variegated small-leaf bamboo, commonly used as a ground cover or small shrub, with each leaf having a white stripe in the centre. This bamboo is very cold hardy and versatile. Prefers a partly shaded position to look its best.

An attractive bamboo featuring lush green foliage set upon strong slender canes. Makes an excellent screen or hedge in large pots or planter boxes. Arrow bamboo looks fantastic in a decorative pot and makes an eye catching garden centrepiece, growing to resemble an elegant fountain. Low water requirement once established. Prefers a sunny to partly shaded position, will tolerate windy, coastal conditions and withstand temperatures below zero. Prune and remove old canes as desired; these make great garden stakes. Fertilise annually with a long term slow release fertiliser.

Temple bamboo is a stunning ornamental species with its short branches and erect canes. The larger canes are leafless on the lower third making it a striking feature in any setting and is one of our most popular ornamental bamboos. Under most conditions, this is not an aggressive runner and it is reported to be tolerant of high pH soils and salt air. This is one bamboo that is guaranteed to make a statement. Prefers a sunny or partly shaded position.

This is a very good bamboo well suited to Perth’s suburban gardens. A very bushy and full looking bamboo it is great for screening out the neighbors. This bamboo will also do very well in larger pots as an ornamental and can be pruned to shape. It is very tolerant of hot and windy conditions as long as you keep it well watered. Prefers a sunny or partly shaded position.
